Welcome to the curriculum mapping site of Southbank International School -
Westminster.
The curriculum is based on guidelines provided by the International
Baccalaureate Organisation and is evaluated periodically by the IBO.
The International Baccalaureate Programmes aim to meet student needs and respond
to their interests. It encourages links between subjects and to the real world.
In order to achieve these aims, the curriculum must be flexible and continuously
evolving. In practice this means, for example, that the order of topics in
English might be altered to further a collaborative project between subjects;
the emphasis in a science unit might be changed to reflect current issues in the
news or a unit in mathematics might be extended in response to student
questions. The curriculum maps define the key concepts and skills taught at each
level of the programme but they are not are not rigidly prescriptive of teaching
order and content. Curriculum development is an on-going process and the
curriculum maps you see here are working documents which evolve over the course
of the academic year.
To understand better the day to day work of students in their classes, we
encourage parents to review their children's homework and class assignments as
well to participate in regular parent-teacher conferences. Further details of
any of the courses may be obtained from the heads of academic departments.
To view the curriculum, click on the Browse tab above. You can view general
course descriptions and a unit calendar showing the order of major
curriculum units. An overall view of the curriculum is shown in a curriculum
map and you can also view details of individual units in the unit
planners.
